The current stake is not another name for the total pot. Treating both labels as the same number can make a table transcript appear inconsistent even when the two fields describe different things. Read what a field measures before trying to reconcile its value.

Identify a reference value and an accumulated value

In Pagat's traditional rules, the pot collects contributions, while the current stake determines action amounts together with blind or seen status. They serve different purposes. This does not establish the meaning of an unidentified app's balance labels.

For record reading, attach a noun to every number. Is it the amount contributed in one event, the accumulated pot, a player's remaining balance, or the reference stake? Writing only "the amount changed" loses the distinction needed to check the record.

Reconcile a made-up ledger

Consider an original arithmetic exercise with no money and no live table. A transcript starts with an accumulated pot of twenty counters. Two recorded contributions then add four counters and six counters. The resulting accumulated total is thirty counters, provided there are no other additions or deductions in this example.

Suppose a separate field displays a reference value of three. The arithmetic does not require that reference field to equal thirty. Nor does it prove that four and six were permitted actions: their eligibility would require the action rules and the relevant player states, which this simplified ledger deliberately omits.

There are therefore two separate checks. The addition check passes because twenty plus four plus six equals thirty. The action-permission check remains unresolved. Passing one is not evidence that the other passed.

Locate the first unreconciled event

If a recorded pot instead ends at thirty-two, first look for a missing starting contribution, another visible event, or a mismatch between the time windows of the panels. Those are questions to investigate, not explanations to invent. Do not add an imaginary charge just to make the total work.

A compact worksheet needs opening total, each observed change, expected closing total and displayed closing total. Keep any fee, bonus or reversal in its own row only if the record actually identifies it. Where the opening total is unknown, say the ledger is incomplete instead of treating zero as the opening value.

Do not infer a payment instruction

This distinction is for understanding records. It does not recommend a contribution, calculate an affordable stake or tell someone to continue a hand. A tutorial's example numbers cannot substitute for a product's rules, and a matching pot total does not prove fairness or authorize a financial action.

For an existing discrepancy, send the hand reference, relevant timestamps and the unexplained difference through verified support. Do not deposit more to test a calculation. Keep the basic table terms separate from the ledger: definitions explain the fields, while the recorded events determine whether a particular total can be checked.
